Annual Chemical Engineering Student Poster Contest
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Dianne Dorland, VP Elect AICHE and Dean of
Engineering Rowan University
"AIChE and Education: What works?"
Date -- Tuesday, April 23, 2002
The poster contest is open to undergraduate chemical engineering
students from selected colleges and universities in the Tappan Zee
section vicinity. Your paper will be posted on a bulletin board or
walls. Judges from the selected chemical engineering departments and
the AIChE section will rate the papers according to (1) technical
merits, and (2) presentation merits. Winners of the contest will be
awarded with certificates and cash prizes. The first prize is $200. The
winning papers will also be posted on the section Web site.
Dean Dianne Dorland, Dean of the College of Engineering at Rowan
University, the newest engineering academic program in New Jersey. In
addition, Ms. Dorland was recently elected to the position of Vice
President of the AIChE for 2002 and will succeed Sid Sapakie as
President of the Institute in 2003, when she will be the first female to
serve as president.
Prior to joining the faculty at Rowan University, Ms. Dorland was the
head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of
Minnesota-Duluth. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical
Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines And Technology, and
holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University.
A licensed professional engineer in both West Virginia and Minnesota,
Dr. Dorland gained industry experience with DuPont, Union Carbide and
the Department of Energy. Over the years, she has developed expertise
in the areas of pollution prevention and hazardous waste management for
a variety of industries. A member of the AIChE since 1969, she has
extensive AIChE leadership experience, including Meeting Program Chair
of the 1977 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, member of the Planning
Process Team, and Director on the Executive Board of the Program
Committee. She is currently a member of the Subcommittee for Women and
Minorities for Professional Development.

Abstract
The Nuts and Bolts of Project Management
Interest in project
management by American business has exploded over the last 20 years as
demonstrated by the increase in the Project Management Institute's membership
ranks from 2500 in 1980 to over 90,000 today.
We will examine the reasons for this dramatic growth, discuss what
specialized skills separate the project manager of today from the generic
"all round" manager, describe the application of those skills, and
venture a prediction as to how business will position the project management
specialty as they sort themselves out in our re-engineering, downsizing, and
consolidating world.

the foresight and schedule to have been there, can refresh their memory, those
foolish enough to have missed it, see why it was a mistake you should not
repeat!

Kleinfeld's bio.
Infrared Thermography (IR) is non-contact, image-based temperature
measurement using an infrared sensitive camera. While temperature
measurement does not sound like that wide ranging a field, IR's applications are
actually very broad. It is used for non-destructive testing, product and
process analysis and development, building energy assessment, building condition
assessment, and condition based maintenance. Its use is limited by the
imagination of the customer and the thermographer. The presentation
will include an introduction to Infrared Thermography, an overview of its many
applications with an emphasis on engineering applications, and a closer look at
one or two specific cases. A live demonstration may be included as
well!
